Fine Art Reproductions
Digital vs. Lithographic - the advantages of Giclee reproduction
giclee_printing_inks
Digital fine art reproduction, sometimes given the name giclee means to spray or apply a fluidic medium by nozzle. It is a technique that has gained popularity for its excellent archival properties, limitless paper surface applications and longevity of sixty years plus.

An Artist can decide the exact amount of reproductions required based on the popularity of the work being reproduced. After each progressive sale additional prints can then be ordered. The economics of this approach are highly beneficial, eliminating the need to have valuable space taken up with slower selling reproductions. The artist is then free to experiment, seeing which work proves to be the most popular in print.

Having hundreds of lithographic copies made can reduce the unit cost per item but initial outlay is expensive. There is also the likelihood of restricted reproduction sizes due to the size of the printing press.

Generally, lithographic inks are not so resistant to the ravages of time. Unless these prints are glazed and stored in an area of subdued light and low ozone emissions, lithographic reproductions will quickly loose their vibrancy. In comparison Giclee prints are not restricted to a particular size of reproduction and have excellent archival properties in the range of sixty years plus.
